We are excited to announce that HYDROPHIL has been awarded a significant consultancy role in Kazakhstan’s Taraz Wastewater Treatment Plant Modernisation project. This essential project, backed by a sovereign-guaranteed loan of KZT 38.4 billion (approximately EUR 72.4 million) from the EBRD, aims to enhance the water and wastewater infrastructure in Taraz City, which serves over 400,000 residents.

Starting on 30 September 2024 and continuing for 50 months, HYDROPHIL will provide comprehensive consultancy services to SCE Zhambyl Su, the municipal water supply and wastewater company. Our expert team will assist in establishing the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) and facilitate procurement, tendering, and contract finalisation to ensure the project’s success.

Among our key deliverables will be the design review and update to align with international standards, preparation of tender documents for works, and contract administration and supervision. Additionally, we will support compliance and reporting obligations under the financing documents and address environmental and social implementation requirements.

This project marks a pivotal step toward modernising Taraz’s wastewater treatment capabilities, significantly improving public health and environmental conditions. By transitioning from outdated filtration lagoons to a state-of-the-art WWTP with a treatment capacity of 80,000 m³ per day (expandable to 100,000 m³), the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensure compliance with EU standards, and promote the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation.

HYDROPHIL is committed to contributing to sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life in Taraz. We look forward to making a positive impact through this important project.
